9 Billion Lives
Through an intensive and collaborative 2-year process, 9BL established a framework to identify and validate innovations with big impact potential and unite them with global opportunities and impact investors. The work of 9BL has been remobilized as the impact framework of Sustainable Growth Co.
$20M Carbon XPRIZE Competition
Launched in 2015 and running through 2021, the Carbon XPRIZE is a bold, global competition offering $20 M in prize money for the best technologies that can convert CO2 into valuable and useful products such as building materials, chemicals and alternative fuels. SGC was a principal architect of the Carbon XPRIZE.
Food Waste Reduction Challenge
Launched in late 2020, the Food Waste Reduction Challenge is inspiring Canadian companies and jurisdictions to reimagine how they can minimize and use food waste. Through multiple prize streams, up to $20M in prize money is available. SGC guided and supported Agriculture Canada in structuring the competition.

Agriculture / Sustainable Protein
Developed with the active engagement and support of diverse stakeholders, a complete Action Framework for how Manitoba can become a global leader in sustainable protein.
Climate / Carbon Capture & Use
Directed the Integrated CO2 Network (ICO2N) from inception. ICO2N was a globally unique enterprise created by industry to establish the business case for carbon capture and storage (CCS) and enable deployment in Canada.
Cement / Carbon Technology
Work with LafargeHolcim Ltd. (Switzerland) to facilitate global access and relationships between them and emerging carbon capture, carbon utilization and energy management technologies.
Energy / National Strategy
Completed an in-depth strategic analysis of Canada’s energy situation for Suncor Energy. Framework was used by Suncor CEO in initial discussions of a national energy strategy.
Mining / ESG Due Diligence
Executed comprehensive ESG due diligence on a potential mining acquisition for a leading global mining company. Work led to re-assessment of value based on ESG risk.
Forestry / Sustainable Products
Developed first-of a-kind in North America downstream business case for sustainable paper products that was adopted by a multinational forestry company. First mover market position led to gains in market share.
Partnerships / Business / NGO
Structured the business case for an international business/NGO partnership between World Vision Canada and Barrick Gold. Resulted in a 5 year, 7 figure financial funding agreement.
International / Sustainability Strategy
Director of Business Action for Sustainable Development (BASD), an initiative of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to represent global business at the United Nations.
